ECU Restoration Services From GIAC

With over 25 years of engine computer ( ECU ) calibration and engineering experience, GIAC has the knowledge and skill to repair and restore many Audi ®, Porsche ® and Volkswagen ECUs to their original working order. Whether the ECU has an aftermarket flash or soldered in socketed "chip", GIAC can remove the modified parts and replace them with an OEM chip and flash.

OBD Flash To OEM

OBD Flash To OEM

In most cases, GIAC dealers can use the on-board diagnostic (OBD) port to return an engine control unit (ECU) modified with after-market software to an OEM, or original factory software state. This is only possible if the after-market program did not change the flashing protocol of the ECU. Knowledge of the flash history of the ECU can help you determine if this is the case. The OBD flash to OEM process can usually be completed while the customer waits, generally taking just under an hour for most cars. GIAC charges $250 USD to remotely support this flash service. Retail labor fees may still apply.

Encryption Socket Removal

Encryption Socket Removal

For most engine controllers, GIAC offers a service to remove after-market computer chips or chip encryption sockets that have been soldered into the ECU. Some software tuning companies use or have used encryption sockets for earlier ECUs in the MK4, B5, and C5 chassis. Encryption sockets can limit the OBD functionality of computer, making it incompatible with flash updates or programming to OEM unless the socket is removed, and the ECU is restored to its original state. Furthermore, encryption sockets add more electronic parts to the ECU that may fail over time. GIAC can remove after-market encryption sockets as well as solder in the appropriate memory device and reprogram it. For this service, ECUs must be shipped to GIAC. Turnaround time is usually 24 to 48 hours.
