We had some fun with our K04’d TSI GTI at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, CA this past weekend (12/4/10). There was a private event held by some enthusiasts from MBWorld.com, which allowed for quite a few more passes than usual. Our GTI performed very well and even surprised a few “bigger fish” at the track.
Weather was 55-65F, ~50% humidity (it rained on us for about 15 minutes at one point) and density altitude ranged from 600-1500 ft. at the track.
Specs on the our GTI Car: 2009 MK5 GTI 6MT
Fuel: Chevron 91 octane (3/8-1/4 tank)
Driver: 6’2” 218 lbs.
Mods:

  • GIAC high output TSI K04 file with optional race mode.
  • AWE TSI K04 kit.
  • AWE CC|B intake.
  • AWE 2.5” cat-back exhaust.
  • AWE PCV hose and diverter valve.
  • Snow Performance Stage 3 methanol injection with 50/50 water/methanol mixture, 375ml nozzle.
  • VMR 18” V710.
  • Mickey Thompson E.T. Street Drag Radials 245/45/18.
Pieces removed: spare tire, rear seat, and front passenger seat (as noted in the pictures)
Trim: OEM suspension (coils and struts), OEM engine/dog bone mounts, OEM differential, OEM clutch, OEM shifter, OEM driver’s seat, all factory body panels, OEM battery. The best pass on 91 and water/methanol was 12.924@111.82 mph with a 2.041 60’ time. Later in the day, we added a bit of octane booster to get close to a 93 octane blend, and managed a 12.88 E.T. The best trap speed overall was 112.79 mph. Based on the 60’ time and parts on the car, these times should be repeatable by most anyone who goes to the track with a similar setup. You can see by the 9 time slips below just how consistent the times and trap speeds for this setup were.
